Prognosis varies widely depending on size and chronicity of the haemorrhage.They are present in ~15% (range 10-20%) of all head trauma cases and occur in up to 30% of fatal injuries.Child abuse is one of our nation's most serious public health problems.It occurs at every socio-economic level, within all ethnic groups, cultures and religions, and at all levels of education.
Subdural hematoma may also be spontaneous or caused by a procedure, such as a lumbar puncture (see Etiology).
Subdural haemorrhage (SDH) is a collection of blood accumulating in the subdural space, the potential space between the dura and arachnoid mater of the meninges around the brain.
SDH can happen in any age-group, is mainly due to head trauma and CT scans are usually sufficient to make the diagnosis.
Child abuse can occur both inside and outside the home setting.
